Folkish Explosion returns in May

Newcastle’s Mining Institute is set to play host to a fantastic, folk-fuelled evening of music. Folkish Explosion returns to the beautiful, historic venue for its third year on Saturday 5th May, with a very special line-up.

Folkish Explosion has gained a reputation for showcasing some of the most soulful, folk infused acts over recent years, and 2018s instalment promises more of the same. Headlining the evening are punk folk five-piece Driven Serious, who promise to deliver an intense, energetic set.

Drawing comparisons to such greats as The Waterboys and The Levellers, the bands raucous, infectious sound combined with their versatile musicianship and song writing creates a recipe for a folk feast like no other.

As if that wasn’t enough, gig-goers can expect three other sensational, string-filled sets. Folk punk exotica trio, Bubamara are sure sprinkle an extra twist of zest upon the evening with their ska/skiffle take on Mediterranean melodies; whilst James Gray Robson & the Lovely Burn will bathe the atmosphere in soulful, tender acoustic bliss. The North-East duo are praised for their unique ability to combine powerful, emotive vocals with awe inspiring instrumentalism.

Last but by no means least, The Shaw Clark Project are sure to captivate the audience with their infectious, eclectic mix of original songs and covers. The Northumberland Duo have been described as a 21st century Sonny & Cher, with their mesmerising guitar skills and impressive vocal harmonies. With the latter harbouring a reputation of evoking unpredictable madness, and the promise of a surprise collaboration to end the evening, revellers aren’t to be disappointed.

Folkish Explosion 2018 will take place at Newcastle’s Mining Institute on Saturday 5th May. Advance tickets, priced at £6.00, are available from wegottickets.com. Alternatively, tickets may be purchased on the door at the cost of £8.00.
