Updated: Apr 9, 2019

UB40 are one of the biggest Reggae bands to grace the UK

Birmingham-based reggae legends, UB40 are are set to take to the stage of Newcastle’s Metro Arena on Wednesday 6th December as part of their ‘Cities and Towns’ tour.

The band, who will be heading to the North East fresh from their Australian leg of the tour, will perform a nostalgic evening filled with classic tracks. Fans can expect to hear a cocktail of UB40’s greatest hits, including the likes of ‘Kingston Town’, ‘One in Ten’, ‘Food For Thought’, and ‘Red, Red Wine’, amongst many others.

Forming in 1978, the band have an extensive political history: from naming themselves after the unemployment benefit form, to releasing their first album ‘Signing Off’ in August 1980, which has since been recognised as one of the greatest reggae albums of all time. Their politically-charged agenda and unique musical style made waves throughout the UK which, in turn, rewarded the band with a loyal army of followers from the dawning of their career.

The summer of 1983 saw the release of ‘Labour of Love’, which stormed straight to the top of the UK album charts and remained there for 18 months. Following its path, lead single ‘Red, Red Wine’ also reached number 1 and remained in the nation’s charts for a staggering two years. This was the beginning of a career that has since seen the band have over 40 hit singles and 14 top ten albums in the UK, making UB40 one of the most successful groups of all time.

Founding band member, Robin Campbell, said, “UB40 are very excited to be returning to some of the biggest venues in the UK during our ‘Cities and Towns’tour.”

UB40 will play Newcastle Metro Radio Arena on Wednesday 6th December. Tickets, priced from £38.50, are available from metroradioarena.co.uk.
