It’s been one hell of a summer, and it’s not over yet. Clear out those diaries and dig out your finest dancing shoes as the ever-blossoming Lindisfarne Festival is set to return for its fourth, magical year.
Once again, the four-day extravaganza returns to the beautiful surroundings of Northumberland’s Beal Farm from Thursday 30th August to Sunday 2nd September. Since its humble beginnings in 2015, this intimate fusion of creativity has leapt from strength to strength, with this year’s instalment set to feature an incredible 150 acts over 9 eclectic stages.
With breathtaking views of Holy Island, the festival has gathered a glowing reputation from music lovers across the country and is fast becoming one of the most established events on the musical calendar. The relentless efforts from the festival’s organisers have led to a string of award nominations, including ‘Best Small Festival’, ‘Grass Roots Award’ and last but by no means least, ‘Best Toilets’. Now that’s a winning combo.
Recent, glorious years have seen the likes of Reef, The View and Scottish trio The Fratellis rock the main Shorefields Stage, and this year’s line-up is as exciting as the last. Friday’s headline slot falls to Madchester veterans,Happy Mondays. Yes, the alt-rock legends will be taking to the main stage to showcase some of their finest party tunes, with hits such as Step On,Kinky Afro and 24 Hour Party People it’s sure to be a night to remember, for all the right reasons. The Salford icons are arguably one of the most influential bands to ever emerge from the UK and will undoubtedly be one of the many highlights of the weekend.
You may be wondering how Saturday night can compare, but never fear as Brighton legends The Levellers will be on hand to induce the crowd with their infectious, folk-punk melodies. The six-piece are no stranger to a headline slot, with the 1990s seeing them sell more platinum, silver and gold albums than any other act. They’ve had 7 top 40 albums, all crammed with classic tracks such as This Garden, Carry Me, One Way and the iconic What a Beautiful Day. Harbouring a reputation as one of the best live bands to ever grace the UK, their music is bound to have you linking arms and baring your souls to the skies. What a beautiful day, indeed.
But it’s not all about the headliners and the clean toilets. Lindisfarne organisers have been working closely with the likes of BBC Music Introducing, Musicians Against Homelessness and CoMusica to showcase and support a huge range of talent from across multiple genres. Other acts taking to the various stages include Teesside 2-Tone ska band, The Skapones, gifted singer-songwriter Hayley McKay and young musical sensation, Tom Mouse Smith. Combined with the likes of We Tibetans, Sea Bass Kid and Ragin’ Against the Machine – the ultimate tribute act – it’s going to be one hell of a weekend, with a little something for everyone.
The High Tide dance tent is on hand to provide revellers with chunky beats, party classics and late night shenanigans, with acts including DJ Seduction, Zero B and Shades of Rhythm. Saturday will see the tent transformed into a haven of hip-hop and jungle, with rare performances from DJ Randall and the infamous Lively Up Crew. We’re sure you’ll probably spot The Happy Mondays in there somewhere!
Those needing to unwind from the night before can immerse themselves in mindfulness and creativity. With an array of workshops, ranging from yoga & meditation to arts & crafts, not to mention the amazing variety of quality food and drink on offer, you’re bound to find a way to recuperate.
